TATA STEEL v NEWBRIDGE

The game kicked off in blustery conditions, and against the run of play, quick witted Newbridge scrum-half Gary Lucas darted over to give the visitors an early advantage. Soon after Tata were able to exert some territorial pressure, and a resulting catch & drive led to a touch-down for skipper David Griggs which was converted by outside-half Liam Popham. After some encroaching from the Tata midfield a penalty was awarded, and Newbridge outside-half Simon Veal added the three points. The next score came again from a Tata rolling maul, when referee Kelvin Shorte was left with no option other than to award a penalty try, converted by Liam Popham. Then just on the stroke of halftime , a delicate chip through by outside half Popham was gathered by winger Steff Stone for Tata's third try.
HALF TIME
TATA STEEL 19 - 8 NEWBRIDGE

The second half began as the weather conditions took a turn for the worse, and the game descended into an arm-wrestle between the two packs. Further Tata tries followed from powerful No8 Ryan Hall, and player coach Matthew Llewellyn, both converted by Liam Popham, as well as a consolation score from Newbridge replacement Luke Knight which was also converted.
